Halliste is unique design by Aleks Byrd which is knit in the round and then steeked and uses her favorite traditional Estonian technique, Roosimine to adorn the shawl. You can find the pattern in 52 Weeks of Shawls.

Halliste is a triangular shawl knitted in the round from the tip to the wingspan. The shawl is steeked with the steek stitches unraveled to create a knotted fringe edging. Geometric motifs dot the shawl using the Estonian inlay technique called Roosimine in two colours. Aleks Byrd likes to play with her Estonian roots and looks for inspiration from her treasure trove of old Estonian books. The initial inspiration for this shawl came from the idea of translating the beautiful embroidery style of Halliste, Estonia.

We adore this design and so have put a few beautiful colourways together for you to easily choose from. The bundle includes 5 skeins of Retrosario Mondim, a gorgeous Portugeuse yarn perfect for this project. Pattern and needles sold separately.

MATERIALS 
Yarn: Mondim by Rosa Pomar (100% Portuguese wool, 421 yds / 385 m – 100 g). 3 skeins of colourway 300 (MC) and 1 skein of each colourway 111 (CC1) and 113 (CC2).

Needles: US 3 / 3.25 mm 16” / 40 cm, 24” / 60 cm and 40” / 100 cm circular needles. Change needles as number of sts increase and require more space.

Notions: Stitch markers, tapestry needle, 24 yarn bobbins.

GAUGE
24 sts x 32 rnds to 4” / 10 cm in St St in the rnd, after blocking.
