5 Selfish Sweater Knitting Patterns to Beat the Winter Blues

5 Selfish Sweater Knitting Patterns to Beat the Winter Blues

While the months of November and December are typically all about gift knitting, we strongly support the idea that January and February should be dedicated to a little selfish knitting. It's pretty hard to argue with showing ourselves some much needed self-love this time of year. After all, us knitters deserve a special new sweater to keep us warm as the dark winter days drag on.

Our most recent newsletters and Instagram Lives have been jam-packed with pattern inspiration so we thought we pull together a few of our favorite designs and yarn pairings to get you excited about knitting a special project for yourself.

1. Color Rain Sweater by Pernille Larsen (@knittingforolive)

The Color Rain Sweater is your answer to some seriously extra fluffy goodness. It uses 8 strands of Knitting for Olive Soft Silk Mohair held together in different shades to create a gorgeous faded effect. Don't you just love it? Best of all, the sweater is knit up on size US 17 / 12.0 mm needles which makes for a super speedy project.

2. Holburne by Amanda Jones for A Yarn Story (@ayarnstory)

We're all about knitting on trend but sometimes we find ourselves craving a timeless wardrobe staple. For moments like this, we suggest casting on the classic Holburne, the latest addition to our in-house design collection. This is the second sweater in our basics collection designed by Amanda Jones and it's just the perfect everyday v-neck jumper. Designed in Malabrigo Rios, we suggest this yarn time and time again for its softness, lovely round profile and washability.

3. Metamorphic Sweater by Andrea Mowry (@dreareneeknits)

Our team could not be more excited about Andrea Mowry's newest sweater design, Metamorphic! The Metamorphic Sweater is a comfortable and effortless pullover knit seamlessly from the top down. The pattern uses two different yarn weight yarns - Sport and DK - which allows the striped motif to really stand out. We've gone ahead and put together 11 gorgeous kits consisting of Spincycle Dyed in the Wool paired with Jilly Bean Yarns Last Spin DK, The Fibre Co. Arranmore Light or The Fibre Co. Lore.

4. Miara Sweater by Renée Callahan (@eastlondonknit)

One of our favorite shop samples is the Miara, a sweater designed by Renee Callahan in Walcot Yarns Opus. Although the pattern looks complex, the colourwork is a simple slipped stitch pattern which makes for a very simple knit. Feel free to tune into a reply of our Instagram Live to get inspired by some of our favorite color choices and be sure to check out our AYS kits here.

5. Dot Dot Dash Pullover by Midori Hirose (@midori_hirose_knit)

There isn't a single pattern published by Midori Hirose that we aren't eager to cast on immediately. Her design aesthetic is elegant, understated and feminine. The Dot Dot Dash Pullover is certainly no exception! We'd suggest pairing this beautiful pattern with Walcot Yarns newest worsted weight yarn, Origin.
