Here at A Yarn Story we like to encourage knitters and yarn-lovers to write their own stories with wool and other fine materials.
The shelves are filled with top of the line yarn brands from around the world such as Brooklyn Tweed, House of a la Mode, SweetGeorgia Yarns, The Fibre Co., Julie Asselin and Shibui Knits, among others, as well as yarns closer to home including La Bien Aimée, Townhouse Yarns, John Arbon, Rosy Green and Garthenor.
Our focus is on high-quality, hand-dyed fibres of wool, alpaca, silk and cashmere.
Current Staff Crushes >>
Amanda shares her current crushes in the shop. First up… Julie Asselin! Amanda says, “I love Leizu Fingering Simple. I’ve just finished the ‘Island in the Sun’ shawl by Susanne Sommer and I loved using this Julie Asselin yarn to knit it. I used my favourite Chiaogoo Red Lace needles with Cocoknits’ Split Stitch Markers (lovely colours!) and it just flew off the needles. However, if I had to pick one yarn out of everything, my all-time love is The Fibre Co’s Road to China Light. A blend of baby alpaca, silk, camel and cashmere, it’s just pure luxury!”
Meet the team
AYS shop manager Anna has been knitting and crocheting since she was in her teens. She has always been inspired by colour and geometry, forever falling under the spell of colour combinations.
Knitter and crocheter extraordinaire Amanda has been designing garments and accessories since the 80s. Amanda says life is never dull if you have a skein of yarn and a pair of needles in your hands.
Whether she’s illustrating, designing garments or knitting up colourwork accessories, Aleks can always be found creating something gorgeous and unique.
Carmen is the owner and founder of A Yarn Story, opening back in 2014 and never looking back.
She says of her love of knitting, “With yarn you can take that string you love and turn it into whatever you want – absolutely whatever you heart desires.”
Sandra is A Yarn Story’s super-organised and multi-talented warehouse manager. Sandra has been knitting since she was a child and loves the rhythmic click of the needles and the endless possibilities offered by all the colours and yarns.
Customer Relationship Manager
Peaches joined the AYS team in May 2015 when the shop moved to Walcot Street in Bath. She can be found working in the shop a couple times a week – her enthusiasm while on duty is subtle, but can always be noted with the occasional squeak. She is expert cuddler, tail thwapper and also adorable-eyes giver.
