Meet Vanessa: The Newest Face at A Yarn Story

Hi, I’m Vanessa, the newest member of the A Yarn Story team.

I first learnt to knit when I was about six years old, taught by my mum. Her approach was… let’s say, fairly relaxed - more “knit three, drop one” than anything too structured - and mostly limited to the sweaters I begged her to make for me (always featuring her trademark holes!).

She was far more at home dressmaking, so my own knitting enthusiasm didn’t last long at the time, and I followed her into sewing instead.Thankfully, many years later, I found my way back to knitting - and this time, it stuck. Now I’m completely obsessed, even though I’m still learning new skills every day (which, I think, is part of the joy).

Before joining A Yarn Story, most of my career was in corporate and financial PR, followed by roles across a range of sales industries - from real estate to lingerie. And now… the delights of all things yarn!

I was so excited when Carmen asked me to join the team. I absolutely love my job - being surrounded by the most beautiful yarns and accessories, helping people choose from our incredible palette of colours, stocking shelves with new arrivals, discovering inspiring patterns, and of course, meeting all of our lovely customers.

I’m also a trained Image Consultant, so you’ll often find me in the shop holding skeins of yarn up to someone’s face, helping them decide which shades really suit them. It’s one of my favourite parts of the role, and I’m always happy to help.

Alongside working in the shop, I’ll also be looking after the wholesale side of our own yarns - Origin, Opus and Fluff. So if you’re interested in stocking any of our ranges in your own shop, I’d love to hear from you.

Honestly, it feels like the best job in the world. I’m surrounded by beautiful yarn, wonderful customers, and the most supportive team - we really are a “friend-family.”
