It’s a wheel of cheese. Except… it’s wool.
Criollo Queso is a gloriously squishy round of unspun yarn made from 100% Criollo wool raised in Mexico. Shaped like a little wheel of cheese (hence the name), it’s made from two soft strands of wool lightly spun together and wound into this wonderfully odd format.
You can knit it as a single strand for something lighter and more delicate, or hold both strands together for a chunkier, cosier fabric. Either way, the finished fabric is airy, lofty, and absurdly soft - the knitting equivalent of wearing a cloud.
Because this is pencil roving, it’s a more delicate yarn while you’re working with it. If a strand breaks while knitting (it can happen!), simply overlap the ends and gently felt them together — the wool splices beautifully. Once knit up, the fabric is surprisingly strong and wonderfully lightweight.
The wool is completely undyed, so what you see are the natural shades of Criollo fleece in all their understated glory.
