A Walk in the Park by Erika Knight
This shawl is a love song to both texture and colour. I am always walking my dog, Peaches, and so neck wear is probably my number one worn knitwear item so a shawl had to be a part of the collection. Erika Knight designed this shawl with five colours and five different stitch patterns. It is so cosy and not too big that you'll drown in it or not be able to tuck it into your coat. This wrap is for the stitch lovers, for those who want a little something more than popcorn knitting but not too much more. Knit on a 5mm needle, it moves pretty quickly which is nice.

Vanessa's first experience of German Short Row shaping wasn't entirely successful on this project but she put her errors down to a personalised design feature! A firm favourite that gets a lot of wear and many compliments and she has now mastered the technique for future projects. Petite Knit are consistently good patterns for beginners and those wanting to brush up on essential and useful techniques.

I started this project having only 4 skeins of this yarn in my stash and then I panicked that I would need several more. Turns out I did not, this yarn goes a long way at this gauge. I love the sweatershirt feel of the fabric from a woolen spun yarn and this cardigan has been a staple wardrobe piece since I finished it. There are button holes and I have buttons but have yet to add them...

Holiday Slipover Junior by PetiteKnit
I remember her knitting this Holiday Slipover Junior - it was right after we launched Fluff and it must have been one of the first projects anyone ever used it for. When we developed the yarn, I certainly didn't have combining it with a funky hand dyed yarn in mind and I can't imagine Max or Vincent did either. But I turned up at her studio one day and she had this on the needles for Eve and I immediately wanted my own version. This uses Stranded Dyeworks Merino DK and Fluff and I am 98% sure it was two strands of each, so four strands in total.

Jilli Jam by Anne Ventzel
Liz and I were twinsies in the Lake District last week - both in our Jilli Jam sweaters. Liz always chooses the most glorious colour combos for her projects and this one is no different. It is so fun to see how a fabric turns out when you mix multiple yarns together - using the lavendar and blue shades toned down the orange in my version making it read more coral and muted. Lizzie on the other hand turned UP the volume on hers using Townhouse Yarns Abbey Lace in Leg Warmer alongside the softer yellow and duck egg shades of Isager Soft.

Having knit the Nordic Bloom Vest, I decided I wanted to do the cardigan in Origin and Spincyle Dreamstate Next Level. My swatch for Origin was on gauge, but I should have gone up a needle size for the colourwork, which i have learned from experience and now almost always go up at least a needle size for strancded colourwork. This is knit from the bottom up, so you cvan gert a good fit and pattern placement.

The A Walk in the Park shawl she made in Spring 2025 out of scrap yarn. It includes Opus in Key Lime Pie and Spellbound, Origin in Beaver's Den, Light House, Salmon, Pacific and Grape Blossom with of course some Spincycle Dream State in Next Level thrown in. I wouldn't have ever thought to use this pattern in this way, it's the beauty of this craft - our canvas is the pattern and our paints are the yarn. Experiment, have fun, make that canvas yours.

Sabai Top by Susanne Müller
Vanessa knit this top with some Knitting for Olive Compatible Cashmere and Isager Silk Mohair she had in her stash. An easy knit and a really versatile top that can be worn equally with jeans or dressed up with a smart skirt or trousers for a night out. There are two versions of the top included in the pattern but Vanessa preferred the plain minimal option without the ribbing. She has also made it in Magpie Fibers Swanky DK and can't wait to make it in a rainbow of colours to coordinate with her wardrobe.

Weekend Slipover by Petite Knit
This was Vanessa's first garment project knit using the beautifully soft and light, Snefnug in Konge Blå. Her choice of yarn came from being drawn to the bright vivid colour and snuggly feel. A good beginners pattern and Vanessa found it easy to follow, although a note to herself for future versions is to count how many rows you have done on the sleeve ribbing to ensure they are even. Apparently she did measure them to make sure they were the same but that could have been after a glass of wine!

Vanessa's obsession with Julie Asselin yarn continues as well as her fondness for bright vivid colours, especially pink! The second Weekend Slipover she has made and this time the ribbing was even on both sides. A good recommendation for beginner knitters as it is a fairly quick knit and no real sleeves to speak of so keeps you motivated to finish the project.

Vanessa's first long sleeved garment project and no surprise she went for the bright vivid colour of Petunia in Origin held with Cinéma in Fluff creating a beautiful fabric. Another well written and easy to follow pattern for an enthusiastic beginner and a definite staple for Vanessa's wardrobe as she loved the boxy shape. What yarn to do it in next?!

Weekend Sweater by Petite Knit (Take 2!)
Vanessa's second attempt at the Weekend Sweater and this is her favourite (so far). A huge fan of Julie Asselin's yarns, the boucle was easy to knit with and mixed with the Isager Silk Mohair resulted in a stunning fabric. Soft and light enough to wear on a Spring day but also cosy with a layer underneath when its a little cooler. A quick knit having previously mastered the pattern which was a good idea on reflection as some beginner knitters may find the boucle a little difficult to work with if it was a very first project.
