Bath at Christmas

Our November retreat takes place just as the Bath Christmas Market opens, when the city transforms into one of the most magical winter destinations in the UK.

Wooden chalets fill the streets around Bath Abbey, lights glow across the historic buildings, and the air is filled with the warmth and excitement of the festive season.

This retreat will celebrate the beauty of Bath at Christmas, blending luxury knitting experiences with the atmosphere of the city in winter.

A Special Evening at the Roman Baths

One of the highlights of the retreat will be an unforgettable private evening at the Roman Baths, where you will experience this extraordinary historic site after hours.

During the evening you will enjoy a performance by the Bath Mummers, bringing the traditions and storytelling of the region to life in a wonderfully atmospheric setting.

Workshops

You will take part in two inspiring workshops during the retreat.

Meet Max & Vincent - our headline instructors

Some teachers you book because of their CV. Others you book because you already know that spending the week with them is going to be a joy. Max and Vincent are both.

Maxim Cyr and Vincent Deslandes are the duo behind Les Garçons, the Montreal knitwear and yarn studio known for its clean, modern, gender-inclusive designs and for a following that treats their YouTube show like appointment viewing. Max brings a children's book illustrator's eye for shape and story to every pattern. Vincent is the problem solver of the pair, forever chasing the construction that makes a sweater actually work on a body, not just on paper.

Carmen has known them for years - this isn't a cold booking, it's a reunion. "We've been collaborating and getting into trouble together for a long time," she says. "Getting them to Bath has been on my wish list and our schedules have finally aligned. I couldn't be more excited for you to meet them."

Amanda Jones returns

Knitwear Designer & Instructor

Amanda has been designing knitwear for most of her adult life, with well over 150 published patterns to her name; from cosy cabled cowls to socks, sweaters and everything in between. Her designs have been commissioned by The Knitter, Laine and many more and among her career highlights, she once knitted a bespoke cardigan which she personally presented to the Queen.

She's been part of the A Yarn Story team for a decade, both in the shop advising on yarn and fit, and teaching workshops on everything from beginner basics to sweater construction. Her specialty is the technical detail that makes a garment actually fit - measurements, bust darts, fit adjustments, and how to shape a design around a real body rather than a size chart. She's known for a teaching style that's patient and encouraging first, technical second - the kind of instructor who gets as much satisfaction watching a beginner leave with a new skill as she does from her own designs.
