Welcoming Knitting for Olive to AYS
We are absolutely thrilled to announce that we are now proud stockists of Knitting for Olive in the UK! As of today, we now carry three beautiful and unique yarn lines from Knitting for Olive - Heavy Merino, Compatible Cashmere and Soft Silk Mohair. But before we dive into the yarn, we'd love to share a bit more behind the story of how Knitting for Olive got started.
Knitting for Olive is a family business run by mother and daughter, Pernille and Caroline, out of Copenhagen, Denmark. The brand started in 2015 by selling knitting patterns for babies and toddlers and quickly expanded to children’s sizes as well. The first adult-sized patterns were introduced in 2018. To be able to give their customers the best possible knitting experience, Pernille and Caroline created their own line of Knitting for Olive yarns to sell alongside their knitting patterns. From the very beginning, their vision was to offer high-quality yarns made of pure natural fibres created with respect for both the animals and the environment.
Now onto the yarn!
First up is Heavy Merino, a hard-wearing worsted weight yarn that consists of 100% Merino wool spun in Italy. It's a naturally soft yarn that will add durability and structure to any knitting project. This yarn is perfect for knitting up chunky winter wool sweaters and accessories such as the Truffle Sweater by Pernille Larson (held double with KFO Soft Silk Mohair) and the Growing Close Hat by Sari Nordlund.
Next up is the luxurious Compatible Cashmere, an ultra soft and exclusive lace weight yarn in 100% Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certified Cashmere. The yarn can be knitted on its own, held double, on 3mm needles or as an alternative to mohair in larger gauge projects. Knitting for Olive's Cashmere originates from China and Mongolia and the yarn is produced in Italy. As far as patterns go, we suggest knitting an object the will lie close to your neck, keeping you wrapped up in warm cashmere all winter long! We love Scarf No. 1 by My Favourite Things (held double) as well as the Terrazzo Neck by PetiteKnit (held with KFO Heavy merino).
Lastly, we're adding to our growing collection of mohair with Knitting for Olive's Soft Silk Mohair. It's a gorgeous lace weight yarn that knits up beautifully when held double with a companion yarn such as Heavy Merino or Compatible Cashmere. Best of all, it is certified sustainable and RMS (Responsible Mohair Standard) so you can feel great about your environmental footprint when knitting up a new wardrobe with this lovely yarn. You could hold three strands of Soft Silk Mohair together to knit up the gorgeous Darjeeling Cardigan by Pernille Larson or hold it double with any fingering weight yarn and cast on the Kuutar Beret by Sari Nordlund.
